Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) of the Kingdom of Cambodia issued a statement expressing grave concern over reports that Thailand has suspended the implementation of a Joint Declaration signed by the Prime Ministers of both countries on 26 October 2025. Thailand reportedly cited a landmine explosion on 10 November 2025, near Preah Vihear Temple, that injured two Thai soldiers as the reason for the suspension and the cancellation of the planned release of 18 detained Cambodian soldiers. Cambodia categorically denies the allegation that it laid new landmines, pointing out that uncleared minefields from the civil wars of the 1970s and 1980s remain along the undemarcated border. Cambodia reaffirms its commitment to implementing the Joint Declaration. As a state party to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, Cambodia has never and will never use new landmines.
